“Days of Our Tribes”

Team Legion (LgN) and Deadstop (dS) are at it again!  During the NASL cast tonight, a player congratulated Buhlitz of dS on his team’s CSN tourney win.  This must have set off Projectile of LgN’s trolldar, because the following conversation ensued:

Projectile: yah blitz was carried vry well by remics

Projectile: blitz and apc worst players by far on dS

Projectile: even Mabel makes fun of them

Buhlitz: projectile’s team gets #2, he has a list of excuses LOL

Projectile: I’m still best player

Projectile: ur own team thinks so 2 ez

Buhlitz: 2 players on my team put you on a pedastool, nobody else is fooled

I’m not sure what is worse…the bad blood between these teams, or Buhlitz’ spelling.  Will LgN get another chance to take the #1 spot from dS in the NASL tourney?  Stay tuned to find out!

XOXO,

Thea

ESL Reveal Opening Cup Details, with a Bittersweet Twist

That is correct, ESL have just revealed details of their Tribes: Ascend Launch Cup set, for the time being, to be Europe’s answer to NASL and CSN in terms of prize winning competition.

Initially the only prizes on the board are ESL premium accounts and vanity icons, however I am assured that a sizable cash prize will be announced in the following days. The map pool and tournament format have been unveiled though the rule-set and team sizes remain as yet undecided.

The competition will be single elimination best of three.

The map pool is at present:

  • Arx Novena
  • Crossfire
  • Drydock
  • Katabatic
  • Raindance

All looks good but there is a sting in the tail, ESL have gone against the grain and are allowing team size format to be decided by public vote. While supporters of 8v8 may initially feel positive about this, the next step is presumably to allow voting on aspects of rule-set. At this point the existing competitive community is likely to be dwarfed by the ESL user base and those arriving fresh from public play.

Teams wishing to sign up for the event will find all the details on the announcement page.

We urge the competitive community to stand up and vote for 7v7 in the hope of keeping control over what many will feel is our tournament.

Days of Our Tribes

Will the drama that occurred last night when Team Legion (LgN) faced off with Team DeadStop (dS) continue into tonight’s matches?

According to a reliable source, Legion felt they lost the CSN $2500 Launch Cup Round 5 tiebreaker match against dS due to the “metagame”.  The tiebreaker match was played on asymmetrical map Katabatic; it is alleged that Diamond Sword has better cap routes than Blood Eagle on this map.  According to the tourney rules, which the source felt were “dumb”:

  • For matches, teams will do a drop/pick system for deciding maps. Each team will be allowed to drop 1 map each, and then pick a map to play. The map left over will be used as a tiebreaker. The team with the seed closest to 1 will drop and pick first.
  • The team that did not pick the map being played will get side choice for that map. The team with the seed closest to 1 gets side choice for tiebreaker map.

The only way for LgN to avoid playing dS (as Diamond Sword) on Katabatic was to drop it.  However, they “mistakingly” did not drop it, and wound up losing the tiebreaker match to dS.

LgN will now be facing off against Tao tonight in the finals.  The winner of those matches will go on to play dS for all the marbles.   If LgN pulls out a victory against Tao, do you think they will play dS on Katabatic again?  Only way to know is to watch the finals tonight and see!
